A wedging nut exploiting various crack features to achieve sound placements, by a combination of three-dimensional tapering shape and hollow construction. The Shellnut’s profile provides stability in ideal and flared/skewed constricting placements by ensuring rock contact axiality with the loading direction, whilst the opposed hollow side accommodates and utilises local crack surface protrusions. For all Shellnut sizes the sling knot is pre-tightened to a measured 5 kN. Shellnut size 2 specification summary: Maximum wedging dimension 24.1 mm; Rated strength 14 kN; Sling length approx. 300 mm; Weight 52 approx. g.
1.Three-dimensional wedging nut.
2. Gives solid placements in wide variety of constriction cracks.
3. Automatically accommodates crack flare and skew.
4. Hollow construction exploits local crack protrusions, and gives high strength/low weight.
5. Low stress externally located resilient sling connection
