Keep track of your distance on hikes and walks like the Army Rangers do. Use this gear for map and compass navigation or orienteering. A must-have addition to your 72-hour kit or bug-out bag.
To make this pace counter more durable, we have used quality 550 lb Polyester Paracord beads instead of plastic.
These pace count beads will not break when cold outside, they will not slide by their own and will stay in place.
Polyester Paracord is suitable even in humid environments and will not be affected wet conditions.
Begin with estimating a distance of 100 meters (110 yards).
The easiest way is to mark the location where your right toe or heel strikes the ground, several times in a row.
Then measure up the distance between the first mark and the last one.
Once complete, simply calculate an average of the stride and then you can calculate how many you need for 100 meters/110 yards.
If you know you will regularly carry a heavy backpack or other equipment, bring them along when estimating the distance, as they may affect your pace.
Keep in mind that hilly terrain, heavy brush and weather conditions such as heavy rain, wind, snowfall, etc., may also affect your pace.
When reaching 100 m/110 yard distance, just slide one paracord bead (from the side where you have 9/7 beads) against the carabiner, this will be repeated every 100m/110 yard.
When reaching 1000 meters (1093.6 yards) you slide one bead on the other side towards the carabiner.
Pull the 9/7 beads back towards the fire starter and start over again.
Then you can easily keep track of distances up to 5 km (or 3,5 miles) just by using this counter.
The Pace Counter is handy and you can easily hold it in one hand.
Even better, use the carabiner as an add on to your jacket.
Our Paracord beads are large enough to feel and move even when wearing gloves, or when it’s getting dark outside and hard to see clearly.
