Shannon (1927-1988) was a journalist and politician who was appointed to be the United States Ambassador to Ireland from 1977 to 1981. Before being appointed to this post, Shannon was a Washington D.C. correspondent for the New York Post (1951-1964) and wrote several books, including The Heir Apparent (1967) and The Truman Merry-Go-Round (1950). His Irish heritage was very important to him, making him a perfect fit for the Ambassador position. He also volunteered for the American Irish Foundation. Top edge lightly toned.
