Italian-born Paul Peter Rao (1899-1988) was Chief Judge of the U.S. Customs Court from 1965-1971. Nominated to the Court by President Harry S Truman, Rao served from 1948 until 1980, when he was resigned to the U.S. Court of International Trade (1980 until his death in 1988). Rao, a veteran of WWI, had previously served as an Assistant District Attorney (1925-1927), had a private law practice (1927-1941), was a candidate for Justice of the New York State Supreme Court (1941) and was Assistant U.S. Attorney General in charge of customs (1941-1948). Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases and scratches (most not evident head on), light scratch touches two words of writing.
