MORRIS “MO” UDALL The Arizona Representative signs his name in blue ink on a 9¾x5 photograph of the House Post Office and Civil Service Committee Magazine photograph signed: “Morris Udall”, in blue ink, B/w 9¾x5. Photograph of the House Post Office and Civil Service Committee. When Stuart Udall resigned his seat in Congress in 1961 to become Kennedy’s Secretary of the Interior, he was succeeded by his brother Morris “Mo” Udall (1922-1998) who represented his Arizona district for three decades (1961-1991). Udall, a liberal Democrat who emphasized environmental protection and campaign finance reform, was known for his self-deprecating sense of humor, often called “Lincolnesque.” After a conservative pundit called him Too Funny to Be President, he used that title for his autobiography. Udall sought the Presidential nomination in 1976, finishing second to Jimmy Carter in convention delegates. Mo Udall was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Clinton in 1996. When Udall, terminally ill with Parkinson’s Disease, was hospitalized near the end of his life, one of his few frequent visitors was longtime political adversary and close friend Senator John McCain. In 2008, Udall’s son Mark and nephew Tom were both elected to the US Senate. Irregularly cut. Corners lightly worn and creased. Folds. Ink markings and notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition. – Please contact us if you have any questions or require additional information. HFSID 215083
