To General Andreossi. In full: “Our matrimonial affairs are progressing, my dear General, and we are very happy. At the end of next week, the necessary papers and publications will be finished. The wedding will take place as early as possible at La Grange. We hope that you will be able to come as well as Mme Andreossi and Auguste. We hope to see you the 19th or 20th but we will tell you the exact date beforehand and send an invitation to all three of you”. General ANTOINE FRANÇOIS COMTE ANDREOSSI had served as Napoléon’s Ambassador to London and Vienna. In the American Revolution, French General LAFAYETTE (1757-1834) played a crucial role in the final victory of 1781 at Yorktown. Lafayette returned to France in 1782, devoting himself to the promotion of America’s interests while remaining active in French political life. He was opposed to Napoléon’s policies and was not active in politics until after Waterloo. Lafayette was a member of the Chamber of Deputies in 1815 and from 1818-1824 and 1825-1830. In the revolution of 1830, Lafayette was made Commander in Chief of the National Guard and was instrumental in placing Louis Philippe on the throne.
