Color, 5×3½, Artist, author and radio talk show host Joni Eareckson Tada (b. 1949) became a quadriplegic after a diving accident in 1967. During two years of rehabilitation, she learned to paint with a brush between her teeth, and survived a spiritual crisis to become an evangelical Christian. In 1979 she founded Joni and Friends, a ministry to disabled persons worldwide. To date, she has written over 40 books, recorded several musical albums, and starred in a film based on her 1976 autobiography, Joni, Her International Disability Center in Agoura, California sponsors the Wounded Warriors program, Wheels for the World, and an award-winning daily radio program. A conference speaker, Tada is active on issues of religious conscience. Married since 1982 to Ken Tada, she successfully survived cancer surgery in 2010.
