JERRY R. SIEGEL The comic book author and creator of Superman signs this typed letter to Windy City Features editor George Hahn, offering to script for any of his projects, dated 1971. Extremely rare! Typed letter signed: “Jerry R. Siegel” in black ink. Los Angeles, November 19, 1971, to George R. Hahn, in full: “Am the writer who originated SUPERMAN and have done much scripting for newspaper syndication comics and comic books though the years. I understand you are starting some new comic strips, in addition to syndicating newspaper comics reprints. If you would be interested in having me script for any of your projects, kindly advise, I can script comedy or adventure material. Sincerely”. Jerry Siegel (1914-1996) wrote and schoolmate Joe Shuster drew the Superman adventures, beginning in June 1938. Amazingly, Siegel and Shuster unsuccessfully marketed the Superman comic for six years before DC Comics finally contracted to use this future American icon. Siegel and Shuster (who died in 1992) left DC Comics in 1947, engaging in protracted legal battles for a modest share of the profits from their enormously successful creation. They are listed on the credits of the Superman TV episodes and feature films, but not on the comic strip. Siegel also published the first science fiction fan magazine, Cosmic Stories, in 1929. Lightly creased in upper left margin. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition. – Please contact us if you have any questions or require additional information. HFSID 344663
