Edwin Hubbell Chapin (1814-1880) was a Universalist minister who led congregations in Richmond and Boston before settling in New York City in 1848. A skilled orator and prolific author, Chapin was identified with the Broad Church movement, which emphasized reason and good works, and denied that salvation was dependent upon acceptance of Jesus Christ.
